Veterans Nursing Degree Opportunity Act

I introduced H4404 Veterans Nursing Degree Opportunity Act last January. I am the primary sponsor of the bill along with several co-sponsors who graciously supported it.

This bill provides a pathway for military veterans who have acquired medical training while in the military to apply that experience toward an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in nursing.

Taking into account our nursing shortage and the rising number of veterans retiring to our state, the bill offers solutions for multiple issues. Additionally, the bill saves tuition (and potential student loans) and recycles taxpayer funded military training by reducing the number of classes required for the nursing degree.

The House passed it unanimously this week and sent it to the Senate. We shall see what becomes of it.
