A cyber attack has compromised a large amount of tax data at the SC Deparment of Revenue.
Governor Haley’s office has advised that individual taxpayers and businesses should take steps to secure their financial data.
An important first step is to obtain credit report monitoring. Once you have obtained appropriate monitoring, please contact your bank, credit card company and cpa to determine what further precautions should be taken.
For individual taxpayers, the State has contracted with Experian to provide free credit monitoring for a year, but you must sign up by January 31, 2013.
