A whiff of midlands skulduggery combined with statewide political party incompetence to create chaos in our primary June 12th.
Many articles have been written over the past week detailing the events that led the SC Supreme Court to determine that dozens of candidates were not qualified to be on the ballot. I will not repeat the details here.
However, I am greatly concerned about the apparent lack of knowledge of election law by both parties. While the Greenville County Republican Party officials demonstrated that they understood the law and effectively communicated the requirements to each candidate at the time of filing, this cannot be said for either party as a whole.
I urge each party to commit the necessary resources to ensure that they are able to fulfill their core functions – i. e. certifying candidates for primaries.
